PB&J At The VMAs

According to pitchforkmedia, Peter Bjorn & John will be ditching their gigs at Montreal's Osheaga Festival and Toronto's V Festival to attend the MTV Video Music Awards on September 9th. The Swedish trio are nominated for the 'Best New Artist', along with the likes of Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse. They promise to make up to their Canuck fans, stating that 'this is an exciting opportunity' for them.

I'm so proud that my favorite Swede band is nominated and in an award show that usually caters bad music to soulless teenyboppers and D-quality musicians who know very little about true music, and acknowledged by an empire that rarely plays music videos, and instead airs low-rated realty shows. At least one person on the MTV team wasn't smoking crack. I really do hope they win, for their own sake.

But I cannot help but wonder...are they selling out? I mean, it's MTV for Christ's sake, perhaps they are merely trying to attract a new and different crowd? In a musical vortex filled with Fall Out Boys and Panic! At The Discos, would PB&J actually be loved as a great band, or just liked because it's considered 'cool' to like 'indie'? Hell, PB&J are probably not considered indie anymore, much to pitchfork's dismay. I just hope that the guys come back to their original musical roots, and don't attract the wrong attention like Wino.

Anyways, good luck Peter Bjorn and John! Hope you guys win it.

Until then, here's a PB&J song I just can't get out of my head:

(By the way, I find the album version better. Meh. It's still PB&J, damnit! It's all good.)

Cashmere or Lipstick?

Fall is a great season for special pleasures:fashion, Thanksgiving, and TV shows. Two of the handful of shows premiering this fall season are Cashmere Mafia and Lipstick Jungle. Both seem like awesome shows for the fabulous, but do I have to choose? Cashmere will premiere on Tuesday November 27 at 1o, but will then move to 9 on December 4. Lipstick will not premiere til January, and will fill the Sunday 10 timeslot. Although I seem to be veering to the Cashmere side, it would conflict with my viewing of Law and Order and House. Troubling, yes, but I think I'll manage to check out both shows. Living fabulous lives in my dream city? Has my name written all over it. Carrie Bradshaw who? There are new fabulous ladies in town.

Until then, the trailers:

Swede Style

New York City...Paris...Milan...

...Stockholm? Indeed the immediate connotation is not 'fashion capital', but perhaps instead meatballs and smörgåsbord. Lagerfeld, Jacobs and Galliano may not hail from this Nordic city, but fashion has a more...practical approach. Neutral tights and draping fabrics mixed with classic pieces make a simple, yet envious style for people of Stockholm. Many Swedish designers create immaculately stylish pieces, despite the cliche of parkas and milk-maid dresses.

My new blog of the moment is Stockholmstreetstyle. Yes, I do realize it is not in English. But the photos are all I need. After all, a picture says a thousand words. A thousand fashionably apt words.

It is so casual, yet undeniably chic. The classic trench coat paired with the exotic multi-colored print dress. Fabulous. Those shades don't hurt, either.

More classics: The wool peacoat and black boots. Definitely necessities for this autumn, and this lovely lady goes for modern chic.

The high-tops with grey skinnies and leopard print bag scream street scene, yet the coat and and scarf softens the whole ensemble just a tad, creating something pulled together, yet still eclectic.
The mustard yellow of the jacket really compliments the neutrals of her outfit, creating a balance. (I want that jacket, by the way)

Not only do the ladies have impeccable style, but the gentlemen do as well! Skinnies and sweaters dominate the male wardrobe. And the European sense and air helps as well.*sigh* If only guys of suburbia dressed so stylishly... Perhaps they'd be just slightly more bearable!

Even kids have great style! Look at their chucks and jackets, thrown together so nonchalantly. Gosh, if I were 12, I'd totally be in love with them.

Perhaps Stockholm will the new Paris for sophistication? I'd rather not say, but this Scandinavian metropolis will definitely be part of my style inspirations.

Chris the Collab King! (Well, I Guess Kanye Too...)

So I was visiting the messgaeboard today--one of the numerous times I do daily. As I scroll down, an intriguing thread catches my eye, with the title: "Kanye West featuring Chris Martin -- Homecoming". Now, the buzz for the collaboration has been around for a while. But the song actually leaked just recently, and everyone is talking about it! Well, people on the messageboard anyways. I was dying with curiosity...and it turns out, the original poster deleted the mp3 link. -__- Alas, my new Bff Youtube had multiple clips. And here tis:

Now, before listening to this, I thought that it would be similar to Chris's collaboration he did with Jay-Z earlier this year called 'Beach Chair', which was featured on Jay's 'Kingdom Come' album. Although I adore Chris, that collab was merely mediocre. Two amazing musical artists collaborating comes with great expectations, and 'Beach Chair' did not meet to them. Jay and Kanye are not the only ones that vied for Chris's contributions, for Justin Timberlake, the metro-dancing-sock-puppet himself requested Martin's vocals, but he kindly declined. Now that definitely deflated Timberlake's head by an inch or two.

Anyways, about 'Homecoming'. Although it would take me some time to get use to this, but for now, I'll say that I enjoyed it very much. The infectious, happy piano is certainly unColdplay-like. However, considering this is a Kanye song, this is really impressive. Their different, yet highly distinctive voices mesh together smoothly, creating minute edge with subtle flow, all coming together to be something new.

Hope this will be a single, and I'm sure the video will be great.

So, when you ask yourself that golden question: 'Who's album would I buy: 50 or Kanye?' Well I know is this formula: Kanye + Daft Punk + Chris Martin. Now YOU do the math.

My apologies...

...for my lack of posts. My mind has been somewhere else. But with the pseudo-crisis cleared out of the way, I hope to get some posts in.

Now waaaay back (if you don't remember, just scroll down a bit), I had mentioned--actually, I didn't just mention, I frickin' went on a tirade about the September issue of Elle. Though I still despise the fact that the best issue of the year is wasted on a girl that' s part of the 'skank brigade', The fashion sustenance did not disappoint. Perhaps this is the best fashion coverage EVER, with over 590 pages of fashionista bliss. There were plenty adverts, but they can be as useful as fashion director Nina Garcia's 'Elle Shops' section. While perusing through the heavenly crisp pages, I couldn't help but be in awe of the fabulous new layout. Text and graphics are arranged in an edgier, yet simplistic view, and it's all thanks to Elle's new creative director, Joe Zee.

Although I've had the new issue for a while now, I've yet to completely finish reading it. But from what I've read so far, I am extremely satisfied. Fashionistas don't fret--Elle is turning around!

Shoot me in the eye right now...

...so I don't have to see the horrid cover of the September issue of ELLE. I was doing my usual perusing through elle.com, and what do I see as the new cover? Lindsay Lohan. *eyeroll* What is going on with ELLE? Wasn't Lohan on the September issue last year? Jesus, let some other notable people to be the cover story. Like models. Please, I thought this was a fashion magazine! I'm getting really disgusted with this. I didn't bother read her cover story last year, and nothing is gonna change my mind this year. I mean, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the August issue with Sarah Jessica Parker. How can you follow Sarah Jessica with LINDSAY? Okay, I have to stop. Thinking about it more makes me sick. Hopefully the Fall fashion material will make up for the horrible choice for cover story. =\

Hopefully soon I'll see it for myself, when it comes in the mail....but I'm still sure as hell NOT excited for a third of the 'skank brigade'.
